Preparation for your MRI scan

  1. MRI IS A POWERFUL MAGNET - 15000 TIMES THAN EARTH MAGNETIC FIELD (0.5 GAUSS EARTH; 15000 GAUSS FOR 1.5T MAGNET.
  2. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE ALL METALS (COINS, KEYS, WATCH, MOBILE PHONES, CREDIT CARDS, DEBIT CARDS, CHAINS, EAR RINGS, NOSE RINGS, HIP CHAIN, ANY ORNAMENTS, HAIR CLIPS, PINS, REMOVABLE DENTAL FITS, O2 CYLINDER ETC.) BEFORE GOING INTO THE MRI SCANNER; LEAVE ALL EXPENSIVE JEWELS AT HOME OR AT A PERSON YOU CAN TRUST.
  3. DO NOT PUT ANY MAKE UP; ESPECIALLY EYE MAKE UP (CONTAINS IRON OXIDE - INTERFERE WITH MAGNETIC FIELD)
  4. DO NOT HAVE TO FAST BUT AVOID FULL MEALS 2-3 HOURS BEFORE SCAN.
  5. IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, INFORM YOUR DOCTOR; HE/ SHE WILL CHECK WITH US - WE CAN DO SCANS FOR SPECIFIC REASONS.
  6. IF YOU HAVE METAL STENT; INFORM YOUR DOCTOR / TECHNOLOGIST - USUALLY NOT A PROBLEM.
  7. IF YOU HAVE METAL RODS, SCREWS INSIDE THE BONE - INFORM YOUR DOCTOR / TECHNOLOGIST - USUALLY NOT A PROBLEM.
  8. IF YOU HAVE PACE MAKER, COCHLEAR IMPLANT, SPINAL CORD STIMULATOR - WE CANNOT DO THE SCAN (UNLESS IT IS STATED SPECIFICALLY MADE BY MRI COMPATIBLE MATERIALS)
  9. IF YOU HAVE FIXED DENTAL BRACE OR METAL FILLING - INFORM YOUR DOCTOR / TECHNOLOGIST - USUALLY NOT A PROBLEM.
  10. COME WITH A RELATIVE OR FRIEND TO HAND OVER YOUR PERSONAL ITEMS. AFTER THE SCAN YOU WILL GET A SMS WHEN THE REPORT IS READY.

More About MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is a patient examination utilizing a magnetic field and radio waves to produce a detailed view of the inside of any portion of your body. It is a painless and extremely safe procedure because no radiation is used. Aided by a computer, MRI is able to produce an image of bone and soft tissue from many different body angles or planes. This enables our physicians to quickly and precisely diagnose a wide variety of conditions.

The scan usually takes from 15 to 30 minutes. Time may vary significantly, depending on the nature of the study and other factors.
